2024 Summer Newsletter

“Remember His marvelous works which He has done…”

Psalm 105:5

Mary Lou Myers 1939 - 2024

Charlotte, Rosa of Tabasco and Mary Lou in 1992

As mentioned in our last newsletter, Mary Lou Myers, our dear friend and mentor, went to her heavenly home on March 24, 2024.  In spite of numerous health issues with her heart, she made many trips to Mexico in support of the ministry and her husband, Larry Myers, the early founder of the missions work.  We owe a great deal of gratitude for their labor and the training they provided us personally. Mary Lou’s strength was in teaching others practical life skills. We all benefited from her wisdom. This quote is from one of our leaders, “She was my spiritual mother. I learned so much from her about my marriage. She made me a better wife, mother and even a daughter to my mother.” Mary Lou is dearly missed. We continue to pray for Larry to be comforted during this hour of intense grief and temporary separation.

Chenalhó General Convention

What tremendous growth has occurred since our January 1986 trip to MX with Missionary Larry Myers! Soon after, our family moved to Atoyac, MX and began mission endeavors with Larry in the state of Chiapas. Hundreds of church buildings have been built and extensive outreaches have taken place. We have long ago lost count of all the teams we have hosted, but we will never forget the wonderful people from both sides of the border who have impacted our lives. Now the ministry is thriving in the state of Oaxaca too. The first general convention was held in Chenalhó in 1992 (Photo Right). The people all fit on the roof of what is now the second level of the Chenalhó dorm. The conventions are now held every 2 years in Chenalhó’s large stadium (Photo Above). During this event, we celebrated 35 years of the Gospel message being shared in the Highlands of Chiapas.

Mexico for Jesus!

Pastor Alejandro, Chenalhó host pastor, greeting the several thousand who attended the 2024 IJSR convention.

Ernie and team power washed everything at the Chenalhó facility — a major job.

Opening service with Pastor Carlos, President of IJSR, and Tzotzil interpreter, Pastor Octoviano.

Charlotte, Russell, Pastor Alejandro and Rosa dressed in traditional Tzotzil clothing for the General Convention.

So proud of Clark, IBI valedictorian of the 2024 Chenalhó class, for following the Lord’s plans for his life with being ordained at convention.

Everyone was impacted by the powerful presence of the Lord during the services.

Many thanks to the men’s team from COTR-Texarkana who worked to clean the Chenalhó facility, paint the stadium and do repairs prior to the April convention.

We felt so bonded with this group of staff and students. To God be the glory! Great things He has done!

We were honored to have Pastor Carlos Tovilla, IBI President, give the commencement speech to our graduates.

Our students were so excited and looking great!

So appreciate the personalized Bibles given to each graduate from one of our IBI sponsors.

Fiesta night is always a special time of recognizing all who have made the past two years possible.

Many meaningful moments during the ceremony.  Another incredible group of students well trained in the Word of God.

Mariachi group provided special music during the pre-graduation fiesta. One of our graduates is a group member.

Professors Stephen and Mike who taught at both campuses in May along with Russell and Charlotte.

The new class of students are so fervent in their worship and seeking the Lord.

IBI Student Sponsorships

The greatest calling and need for MXO is to train up pastors and leaders and to raise funds for their schooling.

A student sponsorship is $800 for the complete two year program and it takes more than one sponsor per student. An entire two week session is $5,000 per campus. If you would like to help, it can be monthly, annually or one time online or by mail. Whatever works for you.

God has been faithful and so have our sponsors for the past 11 years of IBI history!!
